When it comes to shaving, we all want to ensure the best end result.  Silky smooth, soft legs that aren’t cut to shreds or full of razor burn! Follow these tips and you’ll be rockin’ those smooth, sexy legs for days!

  1. Wait until the end of your shower or bath to shave. Doing so allows the hair follicles to soften, which will help prevent dreaded razor burn. Never shave when you have goose bumps! Ouch…
  1. Exfoliate your skin prior to shaving (or at least twice per week) to remove the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. This will give you a closer shave because it allows your razor access to the tiny hairs that would normally be buried under those dead skin cells. This also helps to remove any other products that are on your skin that could clog your razor, preventing that ultra close shave. You can use any salt or sugar based exfoliator or scrub, and you can even make your own by using ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.

  1. Use a moisturizing shave butter, cream, soap or oil to lock in moisture and nourish your skin during the shaving process. Everyday bar soap is no bueno for this purpose. It dries your skin and most often doesn’t provide a thick enough protective barrier to defend against nicks and cuts. The best shaving products will be enriched with moisturizing agents and will act as a supporting partner to your razor, helping it to glide easily, which prevents nicks, cuts and razor burn.

  1. Use a quality razor. Ladies, don’t skimp on buying a good razor. Your legs will thank you! If you’ve been using single blade razors, or cheap disposables (you know the kind I’m talking about!) go ahead and upgrade to a 3, 4 or 5 blade razor. We promise, you’ll never look back! Multiple blades produce a closer shave, less drag and you won’t have to repeat the same area several times. This results in less skin irritation (aka: razor burn). And, it actually makes shaving faster too. Heck yes!

  1. Change your blade regularly. Shaving with a dull razor will not only leave you with nicks and cuts, in some cases it can even trap bacteria and cause an infection. No one’s got time for that! We recommend changing your blade every 4-6 shaves or at the first sign of dullness.

  1. Wait 30 minutes after shaving to allow your skin to rest before applying moisturizer, sunscreen or other products. Your skin is most sensitive after shaving. Allowing this rest time between products helps reduce inflammation.

  1. If your skin is super, super sensitive – try shaving in the same direction as your hair growth. Shaving in the same direction as growth may not get you the closest shave as going against the growth/upward, but if your skin can’t tolerate shaving without breaking out into a rash, this is a good alternative to reduce irritation.

  1. When you’re done shaving, always rinse your razor in hot water and either hang it in a razor holder or dry it and store it face up. Never leave your razor face down in the bathtub, shower or other moist area.

  1. Never, ever, ever attempt to shave your legs dry! I repeat: never, ever, ever attempt to shave your legs dry! This is a sure fire way to experience razor burn at its finest. In the off chance that you don’t heed this warning, you can treat razor burn with a soothing aftershave balm or gel. If it’s really bad, apply a warm, wet compress to the skin for relief.
