Skincare carried out with natural products promotes true, long-lasting health and helps your body’s innate powers of healing to function. We could all use a little more natural and a little less junk in our lives, am I right? But natural doesn’t mean boring or ineffective! Pure products of nature contain many health factors, and they have seen thousands of years of use, so they have a proven track record. Here’s a short list of some of the most healthy natural skin care products you can start using right away!

1. Shea Butter

One of our favorite products! The main benefit of shea butter is the soothing of dry skin, while it also serves well for dealing with irritated or tight-feeling skin. It is used in soap making to make soap softer and less astringent, and it is an ingredient in skin moisturizers and conditioners. We use shea butter in our whipped shave butter to keep moisture locked in while shaving.  Your legs will thank you, especially in the dry winter months!

2. Jojoba Oil

With a chemical composition that makes it a liquid wax, jojoba oil is remarkably stable, so it has a very long shelf life. Its factors are very similar to that of our skin’s natural oils, and it was used by the Native Americans for skin irritations and other skin conditions. It has uses as a lip balm, a pre-bath conditioner, to remove makeup, as a facial cleanser and for massage.  How cool is that?  It’s not expensive either!  For less than $10, you can grab a bottle here and enjoy all of the many benefits!

3. Lavender or Geranium Essential Oils

Geranium and lavender are commonly used essential oils for improving the appearance of skin. They also serve beautifully for maintaining healthy skin and helping reduce appearance of blemishes and other skin conditions. Geranium has properties that give a soothing effect and contributes to overall skin health.  I also love to add a drop of lavender oil to my pillow at night to promote sleep, which is a bonus for natural health! Better sleep = better health!

4. Green Tea

Green tea has been clinically proven to have skin-health benefits. You can access the effective power of green tea by merely brewing up a cup. It can also serve as an inexpensive and face-healing face mask to detoxify and tone your skin. Our favorite mask recipe?  Boil Green Tea in water and let it cool.  As it sets, the water will turn green. Once cooled, mix 1-2 teaspoons of the green tea water with a teaspoon of plain yogurt and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply to face and let set for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with water.

5. Olive Oil

Olive oil has had usage since ancient times in the Middle East and Egypt for skin care. The Egyptians used it alongside beeswax to provide skin moisturizing and health. Today olive oil is used as an alternative to mineral oil for babies and toddlers. The Japanese import more olive oil than any other country in the world as they believe it promotes healthy skin and general health.  The best part, I bet you have some in your pantry right now!

The Bottom Line

Each of these products is useful for your skin care regimen. Healthy skin is promoted by using naturally sourced ingredients with innate healing and health-sustaining constituents to keep your body in balance. Using naturally sourced products is wise living.
